Find out how long it takes to earn your target number of Twitch Channel Points based on your subscription tier and watching habits.
What Are Twitch Channel Points?
Twitch Channel Points are a loyalty currency viewers earn by watching a streamer's channel. Each channel has its own pool of points that viewers build up over time and spend on rewards the streamer has configured. Points accumulate while you watch a live stream, and subscribers earn at a faster rate. Tier 1 subscribers earn 1.2x the base rate, Tier 2 earn 1.4x, and Tier 3 earn double.
How Do You Earn Channel Points?
Having a live stream open in your browser earns you 10 points every 5 minutes. A watch chest also appears on screen roughly every 15 minutes, worth around 50 bonus points when clicked. If you have the stream open in a background tab and miss the chest clicks, you only earn the passive rate. Subscribing increases that passive rate, but the chest bonus is the same for all viewers regardless of tier.
What Can You Spend Channel Points On?
Channel points are redeemed for rewards the streamer has set up. There are two types:
- Custom rewards: unique to each channel, such as choosing the next game, requesting a song, getting a shoutout, or triggering a sound effect on stream.
- Predefined Twitch rewards: built-in options streamers can enable, including highlighting a chat message, unlocking a random sub emote, and modifying chat settings like slow mode or emote-only mode.
