What Makes a Good Twitch Name?

Viewers have to remember your name, type it, and repeat it to other people. Short names spelled the way they sound do that best. Number substitutions and stacked underscores work against it, since both need spelling out every time you say the name aloud.

Names built around one game stop fitting once you play something else, so a broader name ages better. If you want the same handle on YouTube, TikTok or Discord, check those before you settle on it. Matching handles across platforms are usually worth more than a marginally better name on Twitch alone.

Twitch Username Rules

Twitch enforces these rules on every account. This generator only produces names that follow them:

4 to 25 characters. Anything shorter or longer is rejected at sign-up.
Letters, numbers and underscores only. No spaces, hyphens, periods, emoji or accented characters.
Case-insensitively unique. NovaFox and novafox are the same account, so if one is taken, so is the other. Your display name can still use whichever capitalisation you prefer.
Changeable once every 60 days. Released names are held by Twitch for six months before anyone else can take them.

Tips for Picking Your Name

Say it out loud before you commit. If it needs spelling out every time, it will get typed wrong.
Check the name is free on Twitch and on any other platform you plan to use.
Search it first. Make sure it isn't already a known creator or brand, and that it doesn't mean something unfortunate in another language.
Avoid current slang and game names. Both date quickly, and renaming later loses the recognition you have built.
Shortlist a few and come back to them the next day rather than picking immediately.
